8.2 Vehicle Continuity Lock, Chapters 36-39

Vehicle continuity in the Finchel block is locked as follows:

From Chapter 28 until the supply mission in Chapter 38, the pack uses the escape / service vehicle from Chapter 27.
In Chapter 36 they drive the Chapter 27 vehicle to the community center, park it hidden behind bushes, and enter on foot through the kitchen. They do not drive the vehicle right up to Rachel and Finn.
On the way to the community center, they see a Department of Roads service vehicle near a small depot. Raven sees the potential, Nancy marks it on the map, but they do not stop and take it in Chapter 36.
In Chapter 38, after Finn is wounded and living dead start closing in, the Chapter 27 vehicle is on the other side of the building and cannot be safely reached. Finchel's truck is beside them, and Rachel has the key. Therefore escaping in the truck is forced, not a calm decision.
The Chapter 27 vehicle remains behind at the Finchel point. It is not retrieved in that moment.
The Finchel truck is not abandoned, but is also not parked right next to the shelter. It is parked far enough away not to expose the shelter, and serves as a guarded supply source and temporary travel vehicle. It is too large and loud to be an escape vehicle or “home”.
In Chapter 39 they use the truck to bring the Vauseman minivan, the vehicle suited to Theo and people.
In Chapter 39 they also return to the Department of Roads service vehicle they saw in Chapter 36. It enters as equipment, tools, water, and emergency infrastructure.
For the rest of Part 2 and Part 3, the distinction remains: the truck is large supply and dangerous to hide, the minivan is the Theo/people vehicle, and the service vehicle is equipment and emergency vehicle.
