6. Exes, other loves, and the shadows that enter the room

Emma:

Neal Cassidy / Baelfire — early love, important, tragic, and Henry's father. [SQ1]
Sheriff Graham — early relationship in Storybrooke, short and loaded. [SQ1]
Killian Jones / Hook — her central canonical love and romantic endgame. [SQ1][SQ10]

Regina:

Daniel Colter — her first and traumatic great love, which shapes almost all her initial fracture. [SQ2]
Robin Hood — her central canonical adult love. [SQ2]
Her love for Henry — not romantic, of course, but one of the most defining forms of love in her life, directly affecting everything that happens between her and Emma. [SQ2][SQ3]

What matters for writing: The canonical couples don't "cancel" Swan Queen in the fandom. On the contrary, they create the layer of angst, what-if, and the sense that canon chose one path while chemistry bit toward another.
