Piper's best friend from before. The outside world's representative.

In Vauseman fic:

The one who knows Piper's whole civilian history — school, relationships, aspirations.
Finn, her son, is the child Piper doesn't have. Piper's interaction with Finn reveals everything about what she wants and can't quite ask for.
Was the one who called Alex's parole officer (at Piper's request) to get Alex sent back to Litchfield where Piper could see her. This betrayal-act-of-love is part of the backstory.
In post-prison fic: bridge to normality. She is the person who keeps showing up with the baked ziti ingredients and the child and the ordinary conversation that Piper still has trouble believing she's allowed to have.

Do not: make her ignorant of the subtext, make her hostile to Alex without reason, forget that she and Piper have a complicated history that predates prison.
