f. Specific Ronance anti-patterns

• Robin as only punchlines. Her humor is regulation, not performance. There must be something real underneath.
• Nancy as ice-cold robot. She's compressed, not cold. She cares enormously; it just comes out as plans and tasks.
• Steve as romantic rival or triangle. He and Nancy had a past. That past is warm and complicated and does not threaten Ronance. The fandom actively dislikes Steve-as-obstacle.
• Erasing Robin's neurodivergence. "Funny and talkative" without the anxiety, self-monitoring, and social difficulty beneath it is a flat Robin.
• Fast-forwarding Nancy's internalized homophobia. She has ten years of conditioning telling her not to name this feeling. Her arc is slow and specific.
• Making Jonathan the villain. He's absent. He's fading. He's not evil.
• Robin immediately believing Nancy likes her back. Robin's defensive logic has too many layers for that. She needs an unmistakable proof — usually Steve delivering it, or Nancy acting in a way Robin can't explain away.
• Ignoring Barb entirely. The Barb wound is the emotional root of this ship.
• The kids as background. The group is alive and individual. See Section 16.
• Writing Karen Wheeler as hostile or absent. In fics where Robin has any contact with the Wheeler household, Karen is warm, perceptive, and often the first adult to see Robin clearly. Making her cold or absent removes one of the ship's most consistent emotional confirmations.
• Treating Vecna targeting Robin's queerness as incidental. Robin's specific fear — rejection by her people for what she is — is the emotional core of Vecna-gets-Robin fics. It must be written with full weight, not reduced to a plot device.
