2. Who she is in canon

Originally Gideon is an AI manufactured by a future organization, serving the Waverider as a navigator, advisor, and emergency manager. Across the years she becomes a sort of "family member" of the Legends, with insider jokes, real concern for Rip Hunter and the rest of the crew, and her own preferences that contradict what an AI is "supposed" to do. [1]

In later seasons, she receives a human body and goes through a romance with Gary Green. She also becomes more aware of her status as a being who chose her own family. [1]
