The Wilds ran for two seasons on Amazon Prime (2020–2022) before being cancelled. Eight teenage girls survive a plane crash and wash up on a deserted island, unaware that the crash was staged as part of a social experiment. The most popular ship in the fandom is Shoni. The cancellation matters: the show ended on a cliffhanger, mid-arc, with Shelby and Toni's relationship still developing. The fandom did not get a resolution. Season 3 fic is not "fix-it" in the usual sense; the writers were not done with these characters and the fandom inherited an unfinished sentence. This gives Shoni fic a particular urgency — the couple's story was owed something it never got.
