5. Key relationships

Bellamy — her first and most complicated family-of-the-heart. Love, dependence, rebellion, guilt.

Lincoln — her most defining romantic relationship. Through him she discovers love, identity, and belonging to the Grounders. [1][2] In fic, their dynamic is quiet, healthy, stable. They don't need to be worked on across the fic — they're the couple that already works. They often function as the pair giving advice to the central couple (Octavia to Clarke, Lincoln to Lexa).

Indra — a relationship of mentorship, respect, and warrior discipline.

Clarke — shorthand, history, no need to explain. In Clexa fic Octavia is one of Clarke's clear-eyed friends, sometimes closer than Raven was earlier.

Raven — sister-in-arms, especially in the Clarke/Raven/Octavia trio that anchors so many fics.
