In this saga, Henry enters in part 2 with Emma and Regina at age 11. The fic ages him gradually across the parts. His architectural role survives the move to apocalypse:

He is the reason Emma and Regina arrive together
He is the kid who shows the group survival without structure for children won't hold
His "Mom" for Regina is permanent
His "Ma" / "Mom" for Emma is the central naming arc to plant and pay off across many chapters
He gets friends in the survivor group (Mike, Lucas, Will, Dustin where relevant by age)
He has Scout as a non-human friend
He has his own grief — what was lost when the world ended

The architectural rule survives the apocalypse: Emma and Regina are family before they are friends and friends before they are lovers, and Henry is the reason that order holds.
