13. The bottom line for writing fanfic

If you want a convincing Ronance, don't write "chemistry" abstractly. Write the thing that makes the fandom insist on them: the way Nancy learns to respect Robin, the way Robin learns not to be afraid of Nancy, and the way both become most intimate exactly when the world demands they be most functional.

This is a pair that works excellently if you want:

slow burn,
sexual tension without much touching,
trust through action,
queer awakening for Nancy,
Robin who is afraid to fall but falls anyway,
Nancy discovering that she's not only drawn to "safe" boys or to relationships that already have a shape, but also to someone who disrupts her ability to think in a straight line.

In short: In canon they are not a couple. On screen they definitely bond. In the fandom, they're almost a relationship waiting for two more steps.
