The "Mom" / "Ma" voice arc

This is the SwanQueen device par excellence.

"Mom" for Regina = permanent. From day one, never changes. If Henry calls Regina "Regina" in a scene, something has gone catastrophically wrong.
"Emma" for Emma = early phase. When Henry is still negotiating who Emma is to him.
"Ma" / "Mom" for Emma = milestone. The single most-anticipated naming moment in SwanQueen fic. A reader will track the chapters waiting for it. A writer who delivers this naming carelessly squanders the most powerful moment in their toolkit.
Reversions = signals. If Henry has been calling Emma "Ma" for chapters and then reverts to "Emma" — the reader knows something has fractured.

A SwanQueen fic that does not engineer this naming arc with care is missing the architectural keystone.
