In canon, Alex and Piper are a canonical, central, somewhat toxic, very intimate couple who repeatedly return to each other despite everything that should have broken them apart. This isn't a ship of "is there chemistry between them" — it's a ship of "how the hell do they still choose each other after everything they did to each other." The show begins from their joint crime, continues through prison, snitching, breakups, jealousy, betrayals, sex, a prison wedding, distance, and even then ends with a renewed choice: Piper moves to Ohio to stay close to Alex after her transfer. In the fandom, Vauseman is the most identified ship of Orange Is the New Black. Ship and fandom pages describe it as the central ship of the show and the most-written ship for both characters. The common name is Vauseman, sometimes also Pipex. [V5][V9]
