3. Who Alex is, in canon and in vibe

Alex Vause is one of the quietest-sharpest characters in the genre — dry, effortlessly sexy, cynical, very smart, and very wounded. The wiki describes a relatively poor childhood, a rockstar father who wasn't really there, and a mother who worked too hard. Later, Alex enters drug trafficking through her father's connections, becomes a smuggler and dealer, and pulls Piper into that world. That same source also emphasizes one of her most important wounds — her mother died at the time Piper was about to leave her, and Alex holds that moment as a deep reason for ultimately "naming" Piper.
