4. Recurring Avalanche motifs

Motif	What it carries
Sara's scars	Not backstory. They are the evidence. Every scar has a story Sara doesn't tell. Ava seeing them without flinching, without asking, without needing them explained — that is the love declaration.
"You made yourself into a person"	The central reassurance for Ava's clone wound. Not "you're not a clone" — she is — but "whatever you were made to be, what you are now is yours." The distinction matters to the fandom.
The Waverider as home	Unlike other ships whose setting is incidental, the Waverider is essential. It is the only stable home either of them has ever had. The ship is itself a character. Gideon is effectively their housemate.
Ava's color-coded lists	Ava organizes chaos through lists and systems. Sara ignores all of them and has somehow never made things worse. The lists represent Ava's anxiety management; Sara's ability to operate without them represents the specific thing about Sara that helps Ava.
"Sara Lance is trying to die again"	The fandom's shorthand for when Sara is in protector mode rather than survivor mode. The Legends (and Ava especially) have learned to recognize it. It is always an alarm.
Quentin Lance as proxy father	Sara's dad was the last bio-family member who knew her before everything. He called her his baby. In post-canon fic, his death is still raw, and Ava meeting him (in any time travel scenario) is always charged.
Ava's fake parents	The "parents" Rip Hunter gave her don't know what she is. In fic, Sara meeting them is a specific horror and comedy: these are people who believe they raised Ava. They didn't. They're also all Ava has as a family origin. Sara being unfailingly kind to them is the correct response.
The morning-after domestic beats	Coffee made before Ava wakes up. Sara's weapons on the kitchen table and Ava moving them without comment. The Waverider crew stumbling in on quiet moments. The domesticity is always slightly absurd.
The nightlight	Post-trauma recovery fic: Sara can't sleep in total darkness. The nightlight is a small, practical accommodation Ava makes without drama or discussion. It is the fandom's shorthand for Ava learning Sara's specific needs and meeting them without making them a production.
The pregnancy / "Avalance baby"	The official fandom tag. The show ends with them expecting a child. The fandom is writing that child's first years across hundreds of fics: name, personality, which parent they take after, the Legends as a whole chaotic village.
