4. How their relationship looks in the show, stage by stage

4. How their relationship looks in the show, stage by stage

Season 1 — Emma arrives in Storybrooke because Henry found his biological mother. Regina immediately sees her as a threat — as mother, as Savior, and as a woman who destabilizes all the order she built. Already at this stage the relationship is loaded through Henry, territory, power, and mutual threat. [SQ3][SQ5][SQ6]

Seasons 2–3 — After the curse breaks, their relationship moves from direct enmity to necessary alliances. They still fight, still don't fully trust, but learn to work together repeatedly. Henry remains a central emotional axis between them. [SQ1][SQ2][SQ3]

Seasons 4–5 — The relationship gets a deeper layer of trust. Regina teaches Emma magic, Emma protects Regina, and the show increasingly builds a sense of shared family — even without officially making them a couple. [SQ7][SQ8][SQ9]

Seasons 6–7 — Canon does not make them a couple. Emma continues the canonical path with Hook, Regina the path of redemption, leadership, and love in other ways. But their connection remains built on Henry, on shared history, and on the fact that they can no longer really erase each other from their lives. [SQ1][SQ2][SQ10]
