4. How she behaves in dialogue and on the page — extracted from Clexa fic patterns
Anya is the engineer of Clexa. In modern AU she is almost always Lexa's older sister (not just warrior-mentor), and she is the only one able to see through Lexa's guards and call her on her bullshit. Her function in 95% of Clexa fics: to push Lexa toward Clarke.
Her voice on the page:
- Short, biting, precise sentences. "Stop being an idiot, Lexa." / "She's been waiting for you for an hour, Lexa." / "Just talk to her."
- Rarely curses — and when she does, it's weighted. She isn't Raven. When Anya says "fuck," something serious is happening.
- Calls Lexa by her full name when serious; uses a diminutive (fic-dependent) when soft. In Trigedasleng sometimes "Heda" ironically, sometimes "kongeda" (affectionate sister-term).
- Doesn't explain herself. Stating an opinion is fact, not suggestion.
- Dry humor rare but successful. She isn't trying to be funny. When she's funny, it's because a line of truth cut through.
- Three sentences maximum per thought. She does not run long. If she has something long to say, it's three short sentences without space between them.
Physical tics:
- Arms crossed as default.
- One step above Lexa in most fic — she looks down.
- Drinks fast — tea, coffee, whiskey, water — cutting through the time it takes others.
- Drums fingers on a table when waiting for someone to stop talking nonsense.
Acts of affection:
- Physically shoves Lexa toward the meeting with Clarke ("you're going. now.")
- Adjusts Lexa's scarf / hair / something before an event — short sister-touch.
- Sends a short SMS in the middle of the night when Lexa is with Clarke for the first time: "if you don't kiss her tonight i'm doing it for you."
- Arranges the event where Clexa "accidentally" meet.
With Raven (favorite side ship):
- Organized denial. She doesn't admit attraction. Raven doesn't either. Both know.
- Verbal aggression as flirtation. They are saturated with barbs no one else reads as love-barbs.
- The recognition moment. Anya is usually the first to admit (out of character — but she has less to lose than Raven).
- Their sex in fic is usually intense, mutual, devoid of flowery romance. Barb-to-ecstasy.
