Chapter 182, Root / Shaw, Chapter 1

General role: Open the mature city from inside its functioning gates, then cut back to Root and Shaw at the beginning of their end. Their entry must test the city through practical danger, risk tolerance, and the temptation of shortcuts.

Receives: Part 6 leaves a standing city with gates, council, clinic, farm, docks, rescue routes, school, faith space, animals, children, and fresh memory of Zane’s infrastructure death.

Must preserve: city systems must stay physical; core couples must remain emotionally visible; children, animals, food, water, gates, injuries, roads, rescue routes, and living-world danger cannot disappear because the chapter has theme.

Handoff: Chapter 183 receives Root and Shaw on the road, not yet absorbed, carrying their own code of survival and their own suspicion of civilization.
